About

Rebecca

Coastal Mudworks has been a long time dream for ceramic artist Rebecca Hnatiuk.

Rebecca is an Alfred University graduate and has 15 years experience with clay and teaching. Her passion for teaching has lead to the creation of Coastal Mudworks; a clay community to inspire each other to create and try something new, while getting a bit messy in the process.

When Rebecca is not in the studio she can be found as a Maternity RN, outside hiking with her dog, Kona, trying a new cooking recipe or in the dirt gardening.

Our Instructors

Sally

Sally, a recently retired high school art teacher, brings her passion for creativity to Coastal Mudworks, where she loves teaching pottery. She encourages students to enjoy their own unique journey with clay-whether they’re trying out new techniques or honing their personal style.

When she’s not in the studio, Sally can be found traveling, playing with her dog, or out exploring in search of wild clay.

Jake

Jake has been with Costal Mudworks since 2022. His main focus is the pottery wheel with an interest in practical forms. He enjoys the focus and precision that crafting pieces on the wheel requires. Creating a full dinnerware set and building a wood fired kiln at home are some of his goals.

Outside of the studio, Jake is a mushroom farmer and likes camping, the weather, and reading.

Denise

Denise enjoys making all things clay! From throwing on the wheel to hand building. The process of transforming clay into functional and decorative pieces is addictive.

When not in the studio, you can find her baking, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Kim

Kim found Coastal Mudworks in November of 2022 when a group of friends stopped in for a Sip & Spin workshop.  From there, she found a community and a hobby she loves!

As a small business owner herself and a busy wife and mother, free "me" time is not always easy to come by.  The studio is where she enjoys spending some of that time.  There are so many ways to be creative while playing with clay!

Kim enjoys exploring all types of handbuilding techniques and throwing on the wheel every now and then.  Experimenting with glaze layering and color combinations provides endless surprise results.

Coastal Mudworks is a great place to spend a couple of hours and you never know...you may just never want to leave.

Coutney

Courtney has been at Coastal Mudworks making beautiful pottery for 3 years, specializing in cute, hand built pieces for her garden or around the house.

When she isn’t in the studio she is a Special Education teacher at Franklin Elementary. She has been working as a teacher for 7 years and is now bringing her kid-friendly teaching prowess to the pottery studio.

Isabelle

Isabelle is an elementary art teacher. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2021 and is currently getting her masters in art education. She loves teaching because it allows her to facilitate students’ discovery of their own relationship with art and creativity.

In her free time she enjoys travel, yoga, journaling, and spending time with her cats. She specializes in wheel throwing and enjoys experimenting with handbuilding as well.

Isabelle is excited to work with kids and teens in the studio!

Julia

Julia is a professional artist and ceramicist who has loved sculpting as long as she can remember.  She graduated from Lesley University with a BFA in Fine Arts, and is a member of the Boston Sculptors Gallery.

In her free time, Julia enjoys reading, and caring for her houseplants. In the studio she loves all forms of hand building, and is especially excited about figurative sculpture.

Julia is passionate about encouraging the creativity in everyone and the benefits of an artistic practice. Ceramics has been part of the human experience for thousands of years, and Julia is a firm believer in the importance of places like Coastal Mudworks, that make pottery accessible to everyone.
